In de afgelopen tien jaar heeft beeldend kunstenaar Melanie Bosboom een krachtig oeuvre van foto’s opgebouwd waarop zij zelf steeds de protagonist is in een spel tussen de ruimte, het lichaam en een verscheidenheid aan attributen in haar atelier. Zij daagt uit, verdwijnt, of transformeert. De beelden die vaak als een collage zijn opgebouwd uit verschillende lagen, tonen het fotografisch kader als een setting waarbinnen alles mogelijk is. De wereld erbuiten met zijn regels en grenzen bestaat even niet. Rijke stoffen en maskers verrijken deze fantasievolle wereld terwijl ze de hoofdrolspeler tegelijkertijd verhullen of deel laten uitmaken van hun levenloze bestaan.

Over the past decade, visual artist Melanie Bosboom has built up a powerful photographic oeuvre in which she plays the lead role in a game engaging her body, the space and a variety of attributes in her studio. She challenges, disappears and transforms. Her collage-like images are often composed of several layers, where the photographic frame becomes a stage where anything is possible. It is as if the outside world, with its rules and regulations, temporarily ceases to exist. Elaborate fabrics and masks enrich this fantasy world; simultaneously concealing the protagonist while engaging her in their lifeless existence.
