Zijn werk lijkt constant in beweging te zijn, het zijn producten van een continu verschuiven van ideeen over status, inhoud en betekenis. Inhoudelijk gaat zijn zoektocht over sociale en culturele mechanismes aangaande minderheden. Het eindresultaat ligt nooit van tevoren vast en kan figuratief als abstract zijn.

Marcel van den Berg’s works visualize how he senses the world. Van den Berg believes in the physicality of his material. In times of instability there is security in transporting expressive energy directly into the work. His works seem to be in a constant state of flux; products of an ongoing process of changing ideas about status, content and meaning. Conceptually his search is inquiring and criticizing social and cultural mechanisms concerning the association with minorities, resulting in all forms of human behaviour shown in societies. The result is never preconceived and can turn out abstract or figurative.
