The usefulness of the useless: everything has function. When does an object gets useful? Every human being decides automatically by scanning the objects we our surrounded by and try to classify/categorize them. We are doing this based on the information we get or what we have learned about an object. Recognizing and putting together shapes is the basis of this process. This can lead to restrictions to discover more about an object. However, there are more layers of function to discover in objects. This can happen only if we are able to let go what we know and stretch our range of interpretation. Thinking and questioning the function of jewelry objects today,I designed 79 pieces, all connectable with each other. The shapes of the objects are not referring to anything existing and known from our daily life. The viewer is pushed to let go of conventional ways to see and recognize objects, in the same way jewelry is capable of doing. Clues can be found in small recognizable parts, parts that we all know how to use. In this project they function as the connectable point. This project transforms the spectator into a participant by giving the freedom to find out how the objects can function as jewelry pieces. Eventually finding his own way of wearing it,satisfying his own preference, need and most of all his curiosity. |
